Industrial

The safe and economical design of an industrial development depends on a thorough understanding of the needs of the intended occupant and the types of equipment to be used.

Certain specialized operations (e.g. narrow aisle warehouses, ice rinks, television studios, and computer industries) demand extraordinary flat and level floors (deemed "super flat") for proper equipment performance. The net effect of these flatter floors is that lift trucks are able to pick product from higher racks at faster speeds, thereby increasing the throughput of the facility. Distribution facilities, in particular, are getting larger and taller, putting additional demands on the design of the subgrade and foundation.

Facilities that will use large, stationary machinery face separate challenges. The subgrades must be engineered and the foundations and slabs designed to withstand not only the weight of the heavy machinery but the vibration as well. Different machinery creates different challenges and the expertise of the soils engineer is crucial to avoid damage from resonance and other vibration-related phenomena.

Converse Consultants has over 60 years of experience providing the expertise in soil and rock behavior necessary to engineer the subgrade and provide foundation design recommendations. We also provide the field testing and inspection as well as laboratory materials testing to ensure that the construction materials and methods are to the specification requirements.
